If you fancy something sweet and sticky, why not try one of the most beloved delicacies in Peru? The Peruvian Turron de Doña Pepa!

Three crumbly layers of anise-flavoured nougat are soaked in a fruity and spice-flavoured caramel to make the base of this infamous dessert. The Turron is then generously topped with coloured sprinkles before being baked in the oven.

Over 300 years old, this Afro-Peruvian dessert is most prepared and consumed in the month of October, or 'El Mes Morado' (The purple month) as it is known in Peru. In this month, a tribute is paid to the Lord of Miracles, which is the most important Catholic celebration for Peruvians, where millions of households commemorate this Saint, going to Church and accompanying the image of Jesus Christ in a procession, before tucking into this famous sweet treat!

With its distinctive rectangular shape and its reputation for being very sweet and addictive, this Turron is undoubtedly a dessert that you will not stop eating and will soon become one of your favorites!
